*Praise Song
Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty” ……….UMH 64

In this place, among these people
God is worshipped, God is praised
We have seen the signs and wonders;
The lost are found, the dead are raised.
We are living the Gospel story
lives are changed, and mountains moved.
Won’t  you come and work among us?
You are welcomed, you are loved.

*Call to Worship
Leader: To see God’s kingdom you must be born from above.
All: We seek your kingdom, Lord.
Leader: To enter God’s kingdom you must be born of water and the Spirit.
All: We seek your kingdom, Lord.
Leader: God sends the Spirit to show us what love is.
All: We seek your kingdom, Lord.
Leader: God sends Jesus to bring us eternal life.
All: May we be led by his Spirit, Lord, and being led, become your children.

Letter to the Congregation

Dear Claybanks United Methodist Family

The Claybanks UMC has followed the science and the directions given to us by the CDC, State of Michigan, United Methodist Denomination and Conference concerning Covid-19. We have done a remarkable job as a church that has shown an abundance of care for all as we have controlled the possible spread of Covid-19 within our church by adhering to the recommended protocols.

Because we followed the science when the pandemic began and throughout the past fourteen months we are going to follow the science as we exit the grasp that Covid-19 has had on us. The Worship Team made recommendations to the Administrative Council and with much discussion we have decided that we can safely follow the most recent guidelines issued Thursday May 13th by the CDC and return to many of the normal things we did at Claybanks UMC prior to Covid-19.

It was felt that we need to communicate directly with our church family concerning our actions prior to putting many of the recommendations in place. We will be announcing the many changes before worship during our announcement time, in our June Newsletter and by email so that as many as possible will be prepared as they enter our church building.

The first action we will take is to return to a more normal worship setting with ushers, open seating, more movement by pastor, liturgist and ushers during worship. Starting on Sunday May 30th we will begin to worship together without masks or face coverings for those who wish to do so. We as a Christian organization will place our trust in the honor of each individual in how they choose to worship and attend other activities of the Claybanks UMC. For those with young children please follow the safety guidelines for the age of your children. On Sunday, June 6th we will return to having a Coffee Hour following worship with coffee, juice and cookies. Our intent is to keep our refreshment time simple and safe. Please note that we will continue to have hand sanitizer, face coverings and bacterial wipes throughout the church building.

As we continue to move through June we will make our building available for other activities, groups and meetings requesting that all observe the CDC guidelines that are in place at the time of gatherings. We are prepared to be fluid as the health and safety continues to improve or becomes unsafe once again should the need arises.

We want all to evaluate their own health and safety needs and know that we extend to you “grace” as we continue our return to a more normal way of doing “Church” and gather as a church family. We are grateful for the science and your cooperation. Feel free to contact Pastor Gary or a Council member should you have questions or concerns.

Announcements and Stuff

In anticipation of an early Fall Church Conference our Nominations Committee has started their work to fill the 2022 Slate of Committee and Administrative Council representatives.

We are looking, at present, to fill an opening on Administrative Council (Outreach and Mission Chair and Director of Christian Education). Openings on committees includes Trustees, Staff Parish Relations Committee, Nominations and Worship Design Team.

Should you be willing to serve in one or more of these positions or you know someone who would like to serve please contact one of the Nominations Committee members: Kathy Ohman, David Grossman Edythe Brown, Konnie Grant or Pastor Gary.

Special Remembering
Because of Covid-19 we were not able to gather to honor those from our church who passed away during the Pandemic in ways that we traditionally would like to do. We need to celebrate the lives of Helen Cox, Inge Dalbke and Richard Nienhouse and will do so as we gather for worship on Sunday June13th. We will be sharing special moments of their lives and participate in a special liturgy as we speak Words of Grace for lives well lived. Please plan to be with us on this special Sunday of sharing.

Book Mission
Love in The Name of Christ will be collecting Christian books and Bibles on June 29th.  All of the books that can be distributed through the Thrift Store will be available on their store shelves. The extra books will be sent to Mission Cry in Fowlerville, Michigan who will send the donated books around the world. If you have Christian books that you would want to donate; bring them to Claybanks UMC on or before June 27th and place them in containers provided in the Fellowship Hall and we will see that they are taken to Love INC on June 29th. They are really in need of any books written in Spanish.

UMW meeting
How sweet it was for the UMW to gather at the church on a warm sunny May afternoon to plan the 2021 Strawberry Social!  Last month we gathered and discussed if we would need to do things differently due to the Covid virus, but now we are planning to offer the same warm, friendly service to all at our indoor tables. Some traditions are so difficult to give up and this Strawberry Social, held the second Friday in August, is one tradition we want to keep.  How hard it was to not gather last year over this dessert so I know how grateful we will feel to once more share this time together with the larger community.

UMC Facebook Group
As our church moves closer to being more like “normal”, it has been decided to keep our private Facebook group  This helps many of us keep up with goings-on at church in between Sunday worship.  If you’re not a member of this Facebook group but would like to be, contact Pastor Gary or Cinda Moulds.

We Need Your Help

Liturgists are needed for the summer months and volunteers are needed to clean the church from June through the end of the year. Please sign up on the sheets located on the table in the Fellowship Hall.
